WBC Silver super-middleweight champion James DeGale gave the performance he had promised, stopping Sebastien Demers inside two rounds.

The 2008 Olympic gold medalist now wants to keep the momentum going after giving a blistering performance on his Canadian debut at Casino Lac-Leamy, Gatineau.

“I wasn’t messing around,” DeGale said.

“I got in there and he felt too slow and I could see the shots coming so I opened up on him.”

In his first fight since dominating Fulgencio Zuniga in Hull back in December, James had promised to give the Canadian fans a performance and he duly delivered, looking sharp from the first bell, stinging Demers with sharp lefts and rights.

James’s speed and power was clearly too much for Demers, who had won 31 of his previous 36 fights.

Chunky wobbled the Canadian in the first and by the the second round DeGale put Demers to the canvas with a fierce left uppercut that left him unwilling to beat the 10-count, prompting the referee to wave off the contest.

“The finishing shot was a nice uppercut. We’ve been working on the inside and I’m learning in the gym every day,” DeGale said.

The win gives DeGale his 15th professional win and now he aims to step up in class and challenge the best of the super-middleweight division.

“Give me a couple more fights to keep the momentum going and I’m willing to fight anyone,” DeGale said.

“I will be a world champion by the end of this year.”
