Monaghan boxer, Aaron McKenna, put on the most impressive performance of his young career on Saturday when he defeated the undefeated and dangerous, Uisma Lima – who had 8 knockouts out of 10 wins.
Taking place at the iconic York Hall in London, the bout began very competitively with hard-punching Lima putting forth a strong effort. Both fighters were successful in landing their shots early on, but the it would be the young Irishman that began taking control from the midway point.
Impressive combination-punching and uppercuts upstairs, had the Portuguese cut open and hurt later on in the fight. It was a war of attrition in which most young fighters would have succumbed under pressure. But remarkably, Aaron’s resilience and discipline remained intact whereby he began to pull away as the rounds progressed. And his ability to finish strong, appeared to be a strong indicator to many ringside observers that he has the makings of a future World Champion
By the time the 10 rounds had come to a closer, the gap in quality was widened and the a unanimous victory in favour of Aaron was read out – 100-91, 98-92 and 98-93
Having already secured the WBC Youth World Title in 2021, ‘The ‘Silencer’ now holds the WBC International Middleweight Title – getting one step closer of achieving his lifelong dream of become the full WBC Middleweight World Champion.
