HUGHIE FURY is totally convinced Joseph Parker will do everything possible to swerve a world heavyweight title rematch because he already knows the result – he’d lose his WBO crown.
Fury slipped to his first career defeat against the New Zealander in September with the scoring wildly different as two judges had Parker winning by eight rounds while the third scored it a draw at Manchester Arena.
The verdict caused a huge bust up with furious promoter Mick Hennessy calling the decision ‘corruption at it’s highest level in boxing’.
Speaking for the first time at length about his loss, Fury, 23, insisted: “I’m certain that Parker or his team don’t want a rematch and will do everything in their power not to have it.
“Why would Parker want to go through that again?
“I made a world champion who was supposed to be a massive puncher look very ordinary and basic.
“It’s a terrible thing to happen, the judges can rob you but as far as I am concerned this is just the beginning for me – not the end.
“I’ll be coming back some time in the New Year bigger, stronger and wiser but we’ll have to wait and see if it’s Parker in the opposite corner…somehow I don’t think so.”
Fury has spent hours in front of his TV watching endless re-runs of his defeat to Parker trying to find reasons for the decision feels he was fighting against the judges as well as Parker on the night, but in no was he bested by the Kiwi. He added:
“I have watched the fight back so many times that I’ve lost count – it’s easily in the hundreds and I still don’t understand what the judges were watching.
“Even world respected trade magazines like Boxing News here in England and the Ring in the United States both had me as the winner.
“And WBC world champion Deontay Wilder also went on record to say that he’d thought I’d won.
“Can they all be wrong?
“Parker hardly landed on me, the shots that he threw were blocked with my arms and gloves or I made him miss wildly and I countered almost every punch he threw.
“A fighter knows inside when he has won or lost and you could instantly tell by the look on Parker’s face and by his body language that he knew I’d won.
“Just by his reaction when he was announced as the winner, it was a look of shock as if he’d just won the lottery.”
Parker is hoping for a money spinning unification bout against the IBF and WBA multi millionaire champion Anthony Joshua but Fury promises to be ready if Parker steps through the ropes to face him for a second time.
Fury spent ten weeks in camp preparing to fight Parker and he’s already back in the gym in the hope he gets the rematch he craves.
He revealed: “I took a week off after Parker and am back in the gym already. I’m looking to make my comeback early in 2018 so I’m keeping myself busy with training.
“I’m working on new things with my trainer – my dad Peter – and we’re analysing what I didn’t do against Parker.
“I’m continually looking to improve so I’m ready for when the date is confirmed. I’ve just got to get my head down and concentrate and build myself back up.”
