Hennessy Sports are delighted to announce that we have won the purse bid to hold Kid Galahad’s fight for the vacant European super bantamweight title against former Spanish champion Sergio Prado.
Kid Galahad (real name Abdul Barry Awad), 23, claimed the mandatory challenger position for the European title by defeating Jazza Dickens for the British title in September.
“Barry is a superb fighter, he is undefeated, the former WBC International super bantamweight champion, a British champion and I am proud and excited to deliver this fight for him,” Mick Hennessy said.
“I truly believe Barry is a great talent and destined for big things and this is the next step for who I consider to be the future of the division.”
After champion Carl Frampton’s decision to relinquish the title rather than face Galahad, Prado, the EBU-EU champion was selected as the opponent for the belt and it subsequently went to purse bids.
Following today’s bids, the European Boxing Union (EBU) announced the news of our successful bid and we will be looking to announce a date for the contest to be held in the UK in March.
Galahad responded to the news through Twitter (@KidGalahad90):
“Pleased to hear my promoter @HennessySports won the bid for my European title challenge, onwards and upwards.”
